Countywide High Schools and Programs

High school options include:

H-B Woodlawn

The H-B Woodlawn program serves students countywide. The focus is on students who need less restriction and a degree of freedom similar to that of college students.
  • Population it serves -- H-B Woodlawn is a countywide program open to all students in middle and high school via application to the 6th or 9th grade entry levels. (Note: spaces at the 9th grade entry level may be limited).
  • Transportation -- Provided to students living more than 1.5 miles away from the school.
  • Admission process -- Students are admitted through an application process.

Wakefield Immersion Program

The Wakefield Immersion Program provides an academic continuation of the middle school English-Spanish immersion program provided at Gunston Middle School.
  • Population it serves -- Students in the school attendance area, students who attended the immersion program at Gunston, and students who show appropriate proficiency in Spanish.
  • Transportation -- Provided to students living more than 1.5 miles away from the school.
  • Admission process -- All qualified immersion students are admitted.

Wakefield AP Network

Wakefield High School houses the Advanced Placement (AP) Network which offers students the opportunity to take college-level courses.
  • Population it serves -- Students countywide interested in the AP Network.
  • Transportation -- Provided to students living more than 1.5 miles away from the school.
  • Admission process -- Students are admitted through an application process.

Washington-Lee International Baccalaureate Program

Washington-Lee High School offers the International Baccalaureate (IB) program. The IB program is an internationally recognized program of studies available to highly motivated college-bound 11 and 12 grade students.
  • Population it serves -- Students countywide interested in the International Baccalaureate program.
  • Transportation -- Provided to students living more than 1.5 miles away from the school.
  • Admission process -- All qualified International Baccalaureate transfers will be admitted through an application process. Based on next year's projected enrollment, it is expected that there will be approximately 80-90 slots (same number as last year's accepted applicants).

Thomas Jefferson School for Science and Technology

Thomas Jefferson School for Science and Technology is a Fairfax County public school designated by the Virginia Department of Education as a Governor's regional school offering a comprehensive college preparatory program emphasizing the sciences, mathematics, and technology.
  • Population it serves -- Any Arlington County student enrolled in grade 8 may apply, and if selected, attend TJHSST tuition-free. Ninth grade students may apply for replacement positions following the application progress established by TJHSST.
  • Transportation -- Provided to and from TJHSST during regular school hours for Arlington students.
  • Admission process -- TJHSST has a separate admissions process.
