How to Apply to Countywide High Schools and Programs

General Application Process

Students who have already been selected do not need to reapply in the following years.

The application period for secondary schools whether to apply to a countywide program or to transfer to another neighborhood school on a space-available basis is the first Monday in November to the third Friday in January  (Nov. 2, 2009-Jan. 15, 2010 for the 2010-11 school year).

Pupil Transfer Application must be submitted. The parent must first attend a transfer orientation at both the neighborhood school and the desired school. The application must be signed by both school principals. The application is submitted to the desired school.

A random lottery is held whenever there are more applications than available slots. After the lottery takes place, usually the week after the closing of the application deadline, those randomly selected will be notified by mail.

Students who applied but were not selected will be placed in numerical order on the waiting list. Applications received after the application deadline will be placed at the bottom of the existing waiting list. When there is a space opening, the next person in the waiting list will be contacted and given an opportunity to register.
