Academic Plan (4-6 year)

Introduction in Spanish {High School Students}

This site was developed to provide parents and students with the information necessary to make informed decisions about the four year-six year academic planning process.

One of the objectives of the Strategic Plan for the Arlington Public Schools is that every student in grades 6-12 will have an academic plan which charts the sequence of courses that the students will take throughout their secondary school experience. The plan should reflect high expectations, based on the talents, interests and challenges of each student. Students participate annually with their counselor in an academic planning session.

This site contains all the information necessary to assist you with the academic planning process including links to various APS programs and options. We are aware that students’ goals for careers and higher education change, sometimes dramatically, as they progress through middle and high school and learn about new opportunities. Your student and his/her counselor will review the academic plan each year and make revisions as needed.

School counselors encourage students to explore the wealth of resources available to them, both within and outside of the Arlington Public Schools including options for internships, volunteer and paid work experiences, career assessments, and student projects. We encourage parents to talk with their student about future goals and to stress the importance of taking challenging courses that will lead to broader choices in high school and post-secondary education.

If you have questions or if you wish to provide additional input into your student’s academic plan, please contact your student’s counselor.
