    FAMILY LITERACY CURRICULUM

    The REEP Family Literacy Curriculum is a component of the REEP ESL Curriculum for Adults. It is designed to be used either:

    • as a 20+ hour, stand-alone family literacy course, or
    • as units of study that students select in a more general ESL program, such as the REEP intensive and non-intensive programs.

    The REEP Family Literacy Curriculum consists of three levels of instruction, which correspond to the REEP Instructional levels as follows:
     
    REEP FAMILY LITERACY CURRICULUM LEVELS REEP INSTRUCTIONAL LEVELS
    LEVEL A 100 & 150
    LEVEL B 200, 250
    LEVEL C 300, 350, 400, 450

    Each level of the curriculum consists of 4 topic areas:

    • Personal Identification
    • Understanding the School System
    • Parents as Teachers
    • Preparing for Your Child's Academic Success
    Each topic area provides level appropriate:
    • Learning Objectives
    • Functions and Sample Language
    • Resources for Teachers and Student
    • Integration of Structures to be Taught

    "Needs Assessment in Family Literacy Classes" provides suggestions for assessing the learning needs of parents.

    Links from the site map for the REEP Instructional System provide guidance for Instructional Planning, Learner Assessment, Integration of Reading and Writing, Grammar Integration, and Technology Integration.

    For use as a stand alone curriculum, it is recommended that appropriate objectives from the Getting Started Units be integrated into the Personal Identification Units.
