Ashlawn Elementary is a welcoming school that prides itself in its special community spirit. Staff, students, and parents alike work together to create what the principal calls a sense of "Ashlawn Pride."

Ashlawn is one of the county's smallest elementary schools with an enrollment of approximately 325 students. It is a close-knit neighborhood school and has a well-deserved reputation for being a friendly, caring place where most of the families know each other by name. The diverse student population reflects the changing demographic in Arlington, with families from over 20 different countries and cultures.

Ashlawn teachers use a team-teaching approach. Each student is assigned to a grade-level homeroom, and during the school day may be taught in a number of different settings by different teachers based on academic need.

The support from Ashlawn parents is exceptional. During the school year, the PTA compliments the efforts of the staff in providing a first-rate academic program by funding special grade level and school-wide activities, generating a long list of active volunteers, establishing a stellar after-school enrichment program, and most recently, writing successful grant proposals in conjunction with teachers.

As The Washington Post says, "Ashlawn Is A Little School That Does!"
