This new calendar balances the school year and provides continuous learning opportunities for all. Summer learning losses will be reduced through a shorter summer break. Three Intersessions are scheduled during the school year to provide continuous learning cycles. Barcroft has served a changing Arlington for almost eight decades. The school's program fully incorporates the Virginia Standards of Learning and the county-approved curriculum expectations. Additionally, Barcroft's program offers many unique and challenging learning opportunities for all children. The Barcroft staff developed an exemplary school project, The da Vinci Project, modeled after Leonardo da Vinci, a true Renaissance man whose boundless curiosity led him to explore the world. Like Leonardo, students combine creative and scientific thought throughout their learning experiences. This highly regarded Exemplary School Project provides students at all grade levels with focused thinking and problem solving activities. In addition, art and writing become Ôreal events' for audience sharing and publication. Technology is integrated into all phases of the educational program so that Barcroft learners will acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes for success in a changing and information-focused society. The Barcroft staff enjoys a supportive and collaborative relationship with parents and the community. Together they focus on providing the resources necessary to every child's success. They explore their world and their academic studies through interdisciplinary thematic units. |
