{APS School Talk} APS School Talk Access

In an effort to improve communications with parents and the community, Arlington Public Schools is changing the APS School Talk vendor on July 1. The new company is Blackboard/AlertNow. New messages will be sent using this new vendor beginning in August, but to make this change successful, we need your help now.

NEW SCHOOL TALK FEATURES:

The new features for School Talk will include the capability to send voice and email messages in pre-selected languages. Voice and email messages can be sent in English and Spanish, and text messages can be sent in English. Other languages are also available. Although not all of the languages spoken by APS families are included, it does give us a place to start. We will add more languages as they become available from the vendor.

In addition, because subscribers can now indicate their student's ID, as we begin to activate the full functionality of the new system, APS leaders will be able to send messages to parents with targeted information. For example, we will be able to tell parents about issues such as significant delays on your student's bus route, news about individual class activities and field trips for student(s), and district, school or classroom news appropriate for each subscriber's individual student(s). And as students move through the grade levels and school levels, APS School Talk will automatically update subscribers so that information is provided appropriately for each student.

UPDATE YOUR SUBSCRIBER INFORMATION NOW:

  1. First, as a current subscriber, please update your profile to include your student(s) name(s) and student ID number(s) as well as to reaffirm your cell phone numbers for emergency messages. (Note: Each student's ID number is located on the report card, and is also the student's lunch ID number.) To update your profile, click here.
  2. Once you have updated your profile, you will receive an email reply by the next day with instructions on how to activate your new APS School Talk account and set up your preferences.
  3. Finally, please add APSSchoolTalk@apsva.us to your trusted list in your email address book.
With over 23,000 APS School Talk subscribers, we know that there may be some bumps along the way as we transition to this new system, so we ask for your patience during this conversion. We believe this change will strengthen our communication services and help us expand our news delivery options for APS School Talk subscribers.
