Summer Flowers

Wildlife Habitat in the Summer
Tuckahoe has two wildlife habitats.
One is across from the Art Observatory just outside the school.
The other is behind the 5th grade's trailers, "Out Back".
The Fifth Grade's "habitat" may be the desert but this wildlife habitat has a summer treasure!
A native "flame" azalea!
{azalea}
These natives are hiding between Tuckahoe and Tuckahoe Park's tennis courts.
Look for other treasures all year round.
See you in September!

Peter Rabbit!

Peter Rabbit visit's nearby Wildlife habitat.
After grazing on clover between the Art Patio/Butterfly Garden our own little cotton tail looks for cover.

Cub Scout Troop 637 and their dads as well as Ms Panangakos' Third Graders planted natives here. Sara Krech planted natives, removed non-natives and invasive plants and wrote butterfly lessons for the certified Monarch Way Station across the sidewalk from here. Ms Keller's 5th Graders transplanted daffodiles and hosta from here to the Greek Pavilion. PTA Schoolyard Co-Chair, Linda Lee, planned and worked on this area as part of her USDA Native Landscaping degree program. Besides feeding monarch caterpillars with milkweed and adults from other nectar plants we grow here we find Black Lady Swallowtail butterfly caterpillars and aphids eating on the fennel that grows both in the Butterfly Garden and Peter Rabbit's Garden. We find a real "food chain" of Ladybug larvae and Ladybugs eating the aphids that are eating the fennel too!
