Yorktown Athletic Code
Selection to an athletic team at Yorktown High School is both an honor and a privilege. Athletes assume a leadership role and become representatives of the school, as well as the team. Athletes have the obligation to act in a way that reflects positively on the team and our school. We expect more of our athletes because they are our most visible representatives of the school and community.
Assuming responsibility and being accountable for one's behavior is a vital part of the personal growth we encourage through our athletic program. Because we are intent on fostering the kind of behavior that ensures integrity, self-discipline, and sportsmanship, we have developed the following written policy. This policy will be administered fairly, but strictly. Some violations will require stricter penalties in accordance with Arlington School Board policy, which may include out-of-school suspension or legal action.
An athlete at Yorktown High School may be subject to disciplinary action if he or she commits any of the following violations:
Any of these violations can result in the following disciplinary action:
FIRST OFFENSE: Suspension from all athletic contests for a minimum of one week and one game. The suspension may include practice sessions. Parents will be notified of the violation and the disciplinary action taken. A conference will be required with the Director of Student Activities before the athlete is reinstated to the team.
SECOND OFFENSE: Suspension from all athletic contests and practices for two weeks and at least two games. Notification of parents and a required conference involving the athlete, coach, and Director of Student Activities must take place before reinstatement to the team. Any further violation may result in permanent exclusion from the athletic program.
Any violations of this type can result in the following disciplinary action:
FIRST OFFENSE: Suspension from all athletic contests for a minimum of two weeks and at least two games. The athlete may continue to attend practice sessions and athletic contests during this time, but may not compete in any contests. Parents will be notified immediately of the violation. The athlete must have a conference with the Director of Student Activities and the Substance Abuse Coordinator before reinstatement is considered.
SECOND OFFENSE: May result in the permanent exclusion from the athletic program.
