FALL SPORTS 2010:

SCHEDULE UPDATES as of 9/1/2010:
 
All Athletes must have a valid VHSL physical form completed in order to participate in tryouts or practices.
 
FOOTBALL - The first Varsity football game will be held on Thursday night, September 2 at 7:30 pm.  Tickets are $5 (no student discount on varsity football games).

CROSS COUNTRY - Cross country practice schedule is posted under the cross country link below.  Students are welcome to join at any time with a valid VHSL physical on file.
 
FIELD HOCKEY - FRESHMEN- Freshmen game against Chantilly has been postponed.  We are working on a reschedule date.  This game will NOT be played on either Sept. 2 or 3. 
 
FIELD HOCKEY - JV/V - Games at Centreville on Friday, September 3, will be played at 4 pm for JV and 5:15 pm for V.  This is a change from the original schedule.

Basketball Open Gyms - Fall
 
Open gym will be held at 8 pm on the following dates - 9/8, 9/15, 9/21, 9/28, 10/6, 10/13, 10/21, 10/27, 11/3 and 11/10. 
Open gym is available to any current Yorktown student (male or female) and will be monitored by a school employee. 
Dates are subject to change due to inclement weather or other school activities.
 
Congratulations to the Boys Basketball Team for winning the 2010 Basil Harless
Regional Sportsmanship Award presented at the Northern Region Championship game.
 
Girls Tennis 2010 State Champions
 
Congratulations to Junior Emily Flickinger and Sophomore Esu Erdenebat - undefeated state champions in girls tennis.

Emily's final season singles record was 19-0. She was both the individual and doubles state champion.

Esu was Northern Region runner-up in singles and paired with Emily to win the state doubles championship.

 They are the first state champions in girls tennis in the history of Yorktown.

 
Yorktown Wins Inaugural SunTrust Mortgage National District Principals' Cup
 
Yorktown's athletic program is the first recipient of the SunTrust Mortgage National District Principals' Cup.  This award is presented to the school in the National District with the best cumulative finish across all VHSL sponsored activities throughout the course of the fall, winter and spring seasons.  This year, Yorktown had nine district champion teams/groups and eight district runner-up groups.  Overall, Yorktown earned 172 points, followed by Washington-Lee with 150 and Edison with 133.  The cup will be displayed in the showcase outside the gym.  Congratulations to all participants in our athletic and academic programs this school year.
 
Crew Teams Finish Strong at Nationals
 
Yorktown was one of only three public high schools in the country to place both their Men's Varsity 1st Boat and Women's Varisty 1st Boat in the top 12 at the recently completed National Championships in Saratoga Springs, NY (May 28-29).  The men's top boat finished sixth in the country.  Congratulations to all the coaches and students who participated in this exciting event.
 
2010 Spring Sports - B. Soccer, G. Lacrosse, Baseball and G. Tennis Bring Home Championships
 
Congratulations to all the spring sports teams who represented themselves well in district play.  The boys soccer, girls lacrosse, baseball and girls tennis teams all won district championships, while boys lacrosse, softball, boys tennis and girls soccer each finished second.  In addition, Emily F. and Esu E. paired up to win the National District tennis doubles championship and Emily F. won the singles championship.
