The Kaleidoscope Project, McKinley's exemplary project, takes the business of teaching and learning and makes it educationally challenging, colorful, thought provoking and fun. Through this arts-integrated program academic achievement is enhanced through the use of Readers Theatre, puppetry, creative writing, guest artists, musical theater, visual arts, singing and dancing. Students learn in an environment of creativity, experimentation, collaboration, risk-taking, and the use of higher-order thinking skills. McKinley is a school where the halls are filled with student projects and artwork; where teachers work collaboratively across the curriculum; where the lunch room spills ever with happy chatter and laughter; and classrooms with lessons, projects and student involvement.
