  • Good news
     
    • On March 16, 2015, seventh grader Malina N. was awarded a Gold Key at the National level for her short story Paper Cranes. Her work was also chosen as the Best in Grade for 7th grade for the whole country. Her work will be published later this year.
    • Antonia K. also participated at the National level and received an Honorable Mention for her short story Light at the End of the Tunnel.
     
    Staff honor: Resource Teacher for the Gifted, Elizabeth Burgos, presented at the National Curriculum Network Conference March 12-13, 2015 on Mindset in the Classroom.  
     
    Science Fair: Congratulations to the Gunston students who participated in and placed in the Northern Virginia regional science fair at Wakefield High School on March 7 and 8. Four projects won 1st place, three won 2nd place, eight won 3rd place, and four won honorable mentions. Two students, Antonia K. & Amy K., were nominated for the 2015 Broadcom Masters!
     
    Odyssey of the Mind: Three teams from Gunston competed on March 7, 2015 in the regional Odyssey of the Mind competition held at West Potomac High School in Fairfax County. Teams from GMS placed in first, second, and sixth places. Way to go!
     
    Geography Bee: Eli P. has qualified for the Virginia State Geography Bee. He will be traveling to Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia to compete on March 27, 2015.
     
    Virginia Junior Academy of Science: Congratulations to the 45 students who submitted papers to VJAS! 
     
    National History Day: The District 5 History Day Competition was held on March 7, 2015 at Mt. Vernon High School. Gunston had two participants competing: Kyle-David B. with his paper: The Life and Legacy of Napoleon Bonaparte and Madeleine B. with her website: The Life and Legacy of Justice Sandra Day O’Connor First Woman on the Supreme Court.
     
    Wordmasters: Arti S. and Mayu O. were our top scoring WordMasters in the last two competitions.
