  • Casey Robinson Named New Principal of H-B Woodlawn!!

    Casey Robinson
    Dr. Casey Robinson, an H-B alumnus from 1995, will be the third principal of H-B following the retirement of Frank Haltiwanger this July.  The announcement was enthusiastically received by students and staff.  Watch the announcement.
     
    Casey holds a BA from Rice University, a Master of Public Policy from the University of Michigan and received her doctorate last year from the University of Virginia.  She returned to H-B as a social studies teacher in 2003 and has been an assistant principal here since 2010.   • One of the concepts for the new building The School Board voted to move H-B Woodlawn to a new building in Rosslyn.  For more information about the decision see the new section "The Future - New Building and Renovation" under the About Us tab.

  • H-B Woodlawn Student Elected 2016 Youth Governor
     
    H-B Woodlawn junior Salome Gongadze was elected Youth Governor for the 2016 Virginia YMCA Model General Assembly at the 2015 Virginia Model General Assembly (MGA) held in Richmond earlier in April.

  • H-B Art Student to be honored at Carnegie Hall
     
    H-B Art Student, Cole Goco received a National Gold Medal from the Scholastic Art Awards. He will be honored at a June 11th ceremony at Carnegie Hall, NY. The awards ceremony will be broadcast that night live from Carnegie Hall at 6:00 p.m. EST.
     
    Cole’s artwork The Island Adventure(Comic Art) will be on display in New York at the Sheila C. Johnson design Center, Parsons The New School for Design.
     
    The program, currently in its 92nd year, is a national program recognizing outstanding creativity in teens and offers scholarship opportunities for graduating high school seniors. Over the years, the Awards have grown to become the longest-running, most prestigious recognition program for creative teens in the U.S., and the nation’s largest source of scholarships for creative young artists and writers. A noteworthy roster of past winners includes Andy Warhol, Sylvia Plath, Truman Capote, Richard Avedon, Robert Redford, Joyce Carol Oates, Stephen King, John Updike, and many more.

  • Virginia All State Chorus! 
     
    Congratulations to Nick Saunders and Nathaniel Stern for being selected to the Virginia All State Chorus! The All State performance will be held at the Sheraton Premier of Tyson's Corner, Fairfax Ballroom at 1 pm this Saturday, April 24, 2015. The performance is free and open to the public.

  • Students Place First in SkillsUSA Competition

    Julia Harris and Max Stempniewicz earned first place at the state level SkillsUSA Competition in Roanoke. Nikolai Karamyshev and Sammy Allison won a silver medal for their film 'Mr. Boss!' featuring Brian McTyre and Artur Pietra.  Watch it here:  https://vimeo.com/channels/548120 
     
    SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. SkillsUSA helps high school and college students who are preparing for careers in trade, technical and skilled service occupations, including health occupations. 

    Julia and Max will now go to the National Competition in Louisville, Kentucky on June 24-25. Congrats to all 4 H-B students for representing Arlington so well at State!

The current Snapshot features our super teacher Michelle Meehan who came to us last year after eight years at Kenmore.  This video features Michelle and other teachers in a special and unique summer 2013 program combining boat building and math skills.  In her mathematics classes Michelle is a master at incorporating real life applications with math discourse.
