An operating system update designed to resolve a problem with the way the MacBooks connected to the network caused the accidental deletion of critical system files. By patching the operating system with the latest update from Apple, these critical files were restored, returning the devices to working order. Only a few MacBooks were damaged in such a way that necessitated re-imaging the computer. All but about two dozen MBAs (over 400 computers) were repaired within three days and returned to students with all data and information stored on the computer intact.
The collection and repair of the devices was not caused by or related to a security breach, student tampering, or anything of that nature. That is a widely-circulated but inaccurate rumor. Thank you for your patience during this process.
