APS Go!

Arlington Public Schools is in the midst of developing a comprehensive and long-term transportation demand management plan that promotes smart and sustainable choices for the Arlington community. APS GO!, the first initiative of its kind in the country, is a community-wide, school-driven process which positions Arlington as an industry leader in transportation planning.

APS Go!

In conjunction with the More Seats for More Students initiative and the APS Strategic Plan, APS GO! is a part of the APS’ efforts to proactively assess the needs of the community, respond to growth and demand, and develop a forward-thinking plan.

The first phase of the initiative involves data collection through surveys of various APS populations. APS, with the help of a consultant team of nationally renowned transportation experts, along with our APS Safe Routes to School coordinator, completed the following:

  • Student Travel Tally for students pre-K through 10th grade
  • Student Travel Survey for students in 11th and 12th grade
  • Parent Travel Survey for parents of students pre-K through 10th grade
  • Staff Travel Survey

Next Steps

The surveys are just the first step in the APS GO! process. Using data from the APS GO! Surveys in conjunction with APS facilities data and enrollment projections, as well as the results of a multimodal access assessment of each of the APS facilities, APS is developing a comprehensive and long-term transportation demand management plan that promotes smart and sustainable choices for the Arlington community.
