On October 22, 2015 second graders had an opportunity to learn basic facts about birds, migration and conservation. The Migratory Bird Center at the National Zoo was responsible for the presentation. The second grade students looked at and discussed artwork by George Iness, Winslow Homer and Vincent Van Gogh. They drew a picture of their favorite tree.

Lesson adapted from Davis Explorations in Art grade 2 curriculum, Unit 1, Lesson 1,Nature’s Beauty: looking and Seeing/ Remembering Nature Trees as a subject matter.

We looked at artwork made by Gustav Klimt. The students painted their own version of the” Tree of Life” and then use oil pastels to make different type of patterns.
