Welcome to Our Kindergarten Webpage!
I was born and grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. My earliest memories while still in elementary school were those of becoming a teacher. I used to tutor the children in the neighborhood for free and when I had free time, I played school for hours with imaginary students. I attended Slippery Rock State College and majored in Elementary Education with a minor in Art and Early Childhood Education. After completing my undergraduate studies, I began teaching first grade and started working toward my masters. I have done my graduate work at Penn State, the University of Virginia, and George Mason University. At the end of this school year, I will have completed 39 years of teaching in Pre-school, Kindergarten, first, third and fifth grades. I also directed a preschool/day care for 3 years when my children were very young. In my leisure time, I love to travel, read and do crafts. Jewelry making has become my latest hobby. My greatest passion and pleasure is coming to work every day and being with my students. The students, the staff, and administration are so wonderful to work with. Patrick Henry is the best!
Hi! My name is Katie Kennedy and I’m very excited to be teaching kindergarten at Patrick Henry for my second year. I spent 4 years in Massachusetts teaching 2nd grade and receiving my Masters at Boston University. I attended Catholic University for my undergraduate degree so I'm very happy to be back in the Washington, D.C area. In my free time I like to read, try out new restaurants, travel and visit my sisters in Pennsylvania. I'm excited for another great year at Patrick Henry!
Hello, my name is Holly Burningham. I was born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada. I moved east to attend Southern Virginia University where I received a B.A in Physical Education, Recreation Administration in 2009. Upon graduating, I worked as a special education paraprofessional in the Buena Vista City School District. I moved to Alexandria in 2010 and worked as an assistant in the Deaf and Hard of Hearing program at Patrick Henry Elementary. In 2011, I completed an M.Ed in Special Education at Marymount University. While earning my graduate degree, I interned in kindergarten, multi-age, second grade, and high school classrooms, as well as a self-contained Multi Intervention Program for Students with Autism (MIPA). After graduating from Marymount University I knew I wanted to return to Henry. I am so happy to be at Henry with so many wonderful families!
BS in Elementary Education from Lock Haven University(with concentrations in Reading and Spanish). Virginia Certification in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages.
I grew up in a southeastern PA farming community along with my parents and six siblings.Though I love the beauty of the Lancaster/ Lebanon area, I prefer the diversity and cultural opportunities that Northern VA and DC have to offer. The D.C. area has been home for the past 25 years. My first full time teaching job began in a kindergarten class at Patrick Henry. Since then I have enjoyed teaching second, third and fifth grades, Title I Reading and English Language Learners. This year I chose to return to the kindergarten classroom to once again participate in the incredible academic and emotional developmental milestones of 5 and 6 year olds.
One of the pleasures I’ve most enjoyed is traveling to other countries. Some of my favorite places have been Ecuador(where I did part of my student teaching), Machu Picchu, Iguazu Falls (Brazil and Argentina) Prince Edward Island and most recently Istanbul, Turkey.
I also enjoy spending time with extended family and friends. My husband and I enjoy living on Capitol Hill and being close to so many wonderful museums, restaurants and parks.
