Exemplary Project

Pollution and Energy Patrols

First graders have such a passion for the environment. This year your students will jump into lessons about the role we play in keeping our environment clean and healthy. They will demonstrate knowledge of the 3 R’s (reduce, reuse, recycle) and create posters to teach others ways to be good to our planet. They will tour a recycling plant to find out the answer to, “Where does all of our recycling go?” Our 1st graders are also animal lovers. They will reuse milk jugs to make bird feeders for those birds who don’t migrate to warmer climates and stick it out here in Arlington for the winter. A big hit is also the homemade Valentines out of reusable scrap paper from the art room. Finally they will become experts in the field of conservation of energy. Teams of “Energy Patrols” will walk the halls and reward classrooms for turning off their lights when they leave the room. They also serve up friendly reminders to those who forget. Don’t be surprised when your child refuses to throw anything away this year!
