THANK YOU! to Doug Burns, Gordon Laurie, Mike Lutz, Michelle Cottrell-Williams, Alissa Salamone, and Tom Windsor for leading the professional development sessions during the faculty meeting time on Wednesday.

CONGRATULATIONS! to Amelia Wilt who has been awarded the Outstanding Interpretation of the Theme Award in the High School Photography Category at the Arlington County CCPTA Level Reflections Art Contest.  Her entry has advanced into the Northern Virginia District Competition.

CONGRATULATIONS! to Genesis Sanchez- Gonzalez who was recently recognized as the Intern of the Month at Promontory Interfinancial Network.  Genesis was placed in this paid internship through her participation in Wakefield’s Urban Alliance program.

CONGRATULATIONS! to Wakefield’s Model General Assembly team, sponsored by Cory Mainor.

The team represented Wakefield well at Arlington's MGA Day.

  • Panelists for the day were: Senator Barbara Favola, Delegate Patrick Hope and Commonwealth's Attorney for Arlington County and Falls Church, Theo Stamos.
  • Sophomore Wisam Mustafa had the honor of introducing Delegate Patrick Hope to the county's MGA
  • Our students participated in breakout sessions where they had an opportunity to have their legislative bills vetted by the panelists:
    • CA Stamos couldn't see any cons to the bill, presented by juniors Eli Mefford and Alex Hendel, focused on eliminating mandatory minimum prison sentencing; subsequently, they were encouraged to pass their bill on to Delegate Hope to see about the potential of it legitimately being presented through state legislation.
    • Senior Alexandra Duran-Velasquez and sophomore Wisam Mustafa presented a bill on the Dream Act before Delegate Hope during their breakout session.  They did a great job at anticipating the cons to their bill and effectively responded toward its merits.
