First Family Engagement Meeting - January 11th at 4:15 PM

Our new Family and Community Engagement committee (FACE) will hold our first meeting of 2016 on Monday, January 11th in the library at 4:15 PM. Please join us. We will be charting our course for the next six months. If you can't make the meeting, but have comments or suggestions for Family Engagement, please contact our Wakefield FACE co-chairs, Dan Howard (daniel.howard@apsva.us) or Kathleen McSweeney (mcsweeneykathleen@gmail.com). Thank you.

CyberSecurity Conversation at PTSA Meeting - Monday, January 11th at 7 PM

The January PTSA Meeting features cyber security and online monitoring responsibilities - Wakefield parent, Carol Hattrup, who has a background in cyber security, will address our questions and teach us all (students included) what we need to know about the risks and responsibilities we all have when we go online.  Can you ever be anonymous? What's a scraper? What is APS' position on parent monitoring of students' APS-issued laptops and ipads? Learn what Cyber law enforcement officers do and more. Students and parents hear the real facts together! January 11th at 7:00pm, Room A-134.  Spanish translation always provided!

Need Academic Assistance? Attend Saturday Academy and Get Help!

Wakefield offers Saturday Academy academic tutoring on select Saturdays in the library between 9 am and noon. The first one for 2016 is this Saturday, January 9th. See the entire schedule on this web page.

Did you know....?

We are are not just a regular Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) at Wakefield but a PTSA - the "S" stands for students. At every PTSA meeting this year, we are inviting students to speak with us about their activities, initiatives and concerns; in September we heard from the Student Government officers about their initiatives and some sophomores who have joined with their W-L counterparts and started a non-profit to feed Arlington families (DimesforDining.org). In October we heard from students who have participated in the Sister City experience with Coyoacan, Mexico. It is a great way for us all to connect with our high school students, hear what is important to them and be sure we are meeting their needs. Come join us!

All PTSA meetings are usually held the second Monday of the month in Room A-134 at 7:00 p.m. unless otherwise noted.
