Education
Loft has a master’s degree in educational leadership from George Mason University and also earned a master’s in secondary social studies education from the University of Virginia (UVA). She received a Bachelor of Arts in history from UVA.
Experience
Loft began her teaching career at Wakefield High School in 1992. In 1998, she taught at Miami Coral Park High School in Miami, Fla., for a year before returning to Wakefield where she remained until 2006.
As assistant principal at Wakefield, loft developed and managed four summits in which more than 350 students met in small groups with faculty facilitators to brainstorm strategies to help them achieve academic success. She also led development and coordination of the Freshman Success Academy, an academic support program for ninth graders who earn two or more D’s or E’s per quarter.
Loft also coordinated the SOL remediation program schedule and monitored the use of $25,000 in SOL grant money.
