In this episode, Snapshots visits with Ashlawn Elementary School students and staff about their "Lawns 2 Lettuce 4 Lunch" program. Ashlawn and the surrounding neighborhoods have been partnering in a unique school-community project to grow lettuce in their gardens or yards.
The program is a collaboration between Ashlawn and its three adjoining neighborhoods, along with the Church of the Brethren and the Sunrise Retirement Home. It encourages students and community members to grow local, sustainable food. This year, the participants grew enough lettuce to serve 500 people at a lunch celebration on Nov. 9.
