Foreign Language Learning Opportunities for Middle and High School Students
Is your child interested in learning Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Latin, Spanish or Japanese? It will soon be time to register for classes for the 2013-14 school year. APS families are invited to a presentation and discussion on APS world language options on Thu, Dec. 6 from 6:30 – 8 p.m. in the Jefferson Middle School Library. (125 S. Old Glebe Rd.)
Join World Language Advisory Committee chair Dr. Rick Jackson; Senior Research Associate, National Foreign Language Center at the University of Maryland and World Language Instruction supervisor Marleny Perdomo for an informative discussion of the world language options available during the 2013-14 school year and about the practical benefits of learning a foreign language early.
Families will learn about sixth grade transitional Spanish, the new International Baccalaureate (IB) language courses at Jefferson Middle School and Washington-Lee High School, and the new Credit by Exam, which gives students the opportunity to earn credit in 23 different languages.
Information about the STARTALK summer language programs in Chinese and Arabic and opportunities for fellowships and other support for continued language study during and after high school will also be discussed.
