Updated Jan. 28: Kindergarten Information Night Rescheduled for Feb. 4

Arlington parents with children entering kindergarten in September 2013 are invited to attend the countywide Kindergarten Information Night on Mon, Jan. 28, at 7 p.m. at Washington-Lee High School, 1301 N. Stafford St.

The evening will begin with a general presentation at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. At the opening session, parents will receive information about the registration process, school options, extended day and other school-related services. Staff will also provide helpful tips on how parents can prepare their children and themselves for the kindergarten experience.

Simultaneous Spanish interpretation will be available for the general session.

After the general session, representatives from each of Arlington’s 22 elementary schools will be on hand to meet parents and provide additional information.

Children eligible to enroll in APS kindergarten for the 2013-14 school year must be five years old by Sept. 30, 2013.

While the evening is especially helpful for parents registering a student for the first time with the Arlington Public Schools, Kindergarten Information Night provides all parents with an opportunity to receive up-to-date information about the programs, curriculum and the process for registering their children in the Arlington Public Schools. Information will include:
  • Neighborhood and countywide elementary school options,
  • Application deadlines and procedures for countywide schools,
  • School boundary information and possible changes to seven identified school boundaries,
  • Schedules of School Information Sessions,
  • Before- and after-school programs,
  • Health and immunization information,
  • How to register a child in the Arlington Public Schools kindergarten program, and
  • Other resources available.

Parking is limited. Attendees are encouraged to park in I-66 parking deck. The entrance is located off of N. Stafford St. next to W-L and off of N. 15th St. and N. Quincy. Overflow parking is available at the Arlington Education Center, 1426 N. Quincy St.

In the event of inclement weather or if schools are closed Jan. 28, the Kindergarten Information Night will be held on Mon, Feb, 4. Parents who are uncertain about the status of school operations may call the APS hotline at 1-866-322-4APS (4277), or check the website at www.apsva.us for announcements about changes in operations.

The annual Kindergarten Information Night is co-sponsored by Arlington Public Schools and the County Council of PTAs.

There is no admission for the event. For more information, contact the School and Community Relations Department at 703-228-6005 or 703-228-7667.
