APS Launches New Online Budget Tool
Gives Stakeholders Opportunity to Provide Input
Arlington Public Schools is giving its stakeholders the opportunity to make suggestions to balance the FY 2014 budget.
The County Board and the School Board met in November 2012 to discuss the FY14 budget. At that time, the County Manager estimated that revenue growth would slow to approximately 1% for next year. Based on this level of revenue growth, APS estimates a shortfall of approximately $23.5 million for FY14 for continuing services only, including funding for the projected increase in enrollment and a step increase for employees.
The Superintendent and the School Board would like to know what choices stakeholders would make in closing the gap for FY14. The budget tool shows the deficit that must be made up in order to balance the budget. The deficit is projected at $16.3 million which is the $23.5 million gap outlined above minus the step increase for employees.
to start using the tool. The deadline to make suggestions is close of business on Tues, Feb. 5.
