Community Meeting on New Elementary School Boundary Set for Jan. 23
As a continuation of the More Seats for More Students process, APS will hold a community meeting on Wed, Jan. 23, at 7pm in the Williamsburg Middle School Auditorium. At this meeting, APS will continue to solicit input on creating a boundary for the new elementary school to be built on the Williamsburg site and adjusting boundaries to balance enrollment at seven neighboring schools (Ashlawn, Glebe, Jamestown, McKinley, Nottingham, Taylor and Tuckahoe).
The community will have an opportunity to view the options most often suggested by community members, hear the results of the recent APS survey on the boundary criteria and grandfathering options, and work together, using the prioritized criteria, to analyze the options suggested by the community. Community members and parents attending the meeting are asked to bring a laptop or other wireless devices for small group work.
Staff will use the feedback from the Jan. 23 meeting to develop a smaller set of boundary options for consideration and review at the next meeting to be held on Thu, Feb. 7, at 7 pm in the Williamsburg Middle School Auditorium. The work and feedback from these meetings will help APS move closer to developing a final set of options for the Superintendent to consider in making his recommendations to the School Board in late March. The outcomes of this boundary process are slated to go into effect in September 2015 for the 2015-16 school year.
