Culinary Arts and Sciences II
Full year, 2 periods, 2 credits
Grades 10 - 12

Prerequisite: Culinary Arts & Sciences I or sucessful completion of entry level course taken at another school.  The instructor will meet with the parent prior to final approval and the student may be tested for prior knowledge before being admitted. In addition, a chest X-ray or tuberculin skin test is required.


 




INSTRUCTORS

DESCRIPTION: Culinary Arts and Sciences II builds directly upon the Culinary Arts and Sciences Level I experience and is designed to provide students with more intense learning and working environment.  Timing of work will become important and will help evaluate student's ability to work independently and in small groups.  Teamwork and independence is aimed at determining leadership potential as well as building more advanced skills. Upon completion of Level II and successfully scoring on the NOCTI pre and post testing, students will be well prepared to enter post-secondary culinary education or entry-level cooking or baking position.  A State Certification Seal will be attached to the graduates diploma indicating completion of both I & II level course. Additionally, exceptionally talented students may choose to participate and may qualify for SkillsUSA competitions which can lead to scholarships or other awards.   Level II students are also involved in service and charity activities in the community as well as serve as cooks, bakers and servers for APS functions frequently held at the Career Center throughout the school year.
