Work-Based Learning & Student Opportunities

High School Work-Based Learning

High-Quality Work-Based Learning (HQWBL) ​is comprised of​ school-coordinated workplace experiences that are:

  • ​​related to students’ career goals and/or interests​,​​
  • integrated with instruction, and
  • ​​performed in partnership with local businesses and organizations. ​

There are 12 Work-based Learning experiences defined by the Virginia Department of Education.  They include: Job Shadowing, Service Learning, Externship, School-based Enterprise, Mentorship, Internship, Entrepreneurship, Cooperative Education, SAE, Clinical Experience, Youth Registered Apprenticeships, and Registered Apprenticeships.

High School - Externship, Internship and other Work-based Learning

9 - 12th Graders

This program is designed for students interested in a career in Cybersecurity.  Successful completion of this program is considered a Work-based Learning experience.
