Labor Relations
Labor relations is responsible for working with representatives from collective bargaining units regarding labor relations matters, including negotiations over wages, benefits and terms and conditions of employment. The office also processes employee appeals and grievances.
Collective Bargaining
Collective bargaining is a process by which an employer (such as APS), negotiates with a group of employees (a bargaining unit) over terms and conditions of employment. The bargaining unit is represented in negotiations by a bargaining agent (such as a union or association).
In May 2022 the Arlington School Board adopted a Collective Bargaining Resolution (CBR) creating three bargaining units at APS. Each bargaining unit has elected an exclusive bargaining agent.
- Administrative Personnel elected Arlington School Administrators (ASA) in October 2022.
- Licensed Personnel elected Arlington Education Association (AEA) in May 2023.
- Support Personnel elected Arlington Education Association (AEA) in May 2023.
Current Status & Next Steps
Administrative Personnel
- APS and ASA reached an initial Collective Bargaining Agreement effective August 1, 2023 through June 30, 2024.
- APS and ASA are currently negotiating a three-year successor agreement.
Licensed Personnel: APS and AEA have reached an initial three-year agreement, effective July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2027.
Support Personnel: APS and AEA have reached an initial two-year agreement, effective July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2026.
