iPad iOS 14.2/3 (now 14.4) Update

Subject: iPad (iOS) updates for APS Devices

Asunto: Actualizaciones de iPad (iOS) para dispositivos de APS

Hello Families,

A few updates to share. The APS Department of Information Services has opened up software updates to student iPads which will allow students to update to iOS 14.2. . Some students may need to do several updates to get the iPad to 14.2.  Please read the information below and follow the step by step instructions.  You can also watch this video which walks you through the steps. What you need to do to prepare for your iOS update:

  • Do Not Disturb in the Settings app should be toggled OFF on the iPad because the apps and updates will not happen if Do Not Disturb is on (toggle should be gray not green).
  • Have at least 6GB of free space. Go through your photos app and delete any images/videos that you don’t need. Then delete the deleted. (You can check the iPad storage in the Settings app. Open Settings app, tap on General on the left then iPad Storage on the right).
  • Connect to a charger OR have at least 60% battery left.
  • Connect to a network (WiFi).

Step 1: To update your iOS (this takes 20-40 minutes – do it at the end of the day!):

  1. Open the Settings app
  2. Tap on General on the left then Software Update on the right.
  3. Tap Download and Install. *If your iPad does not allow you to update it, for example if it reads: “updates disabled by administrator,” click on the Hub app, log in with your APS password and sync. Repeat steps above.

Step 2: Log in the the Hub app

  1. Click on the Hub App
  2. It will already have your child’s APS student ID (username).  Type in the APS password and press “NEXT.”
  3. You will see the student ID number at the top.  Underneath it, select “This Device”.
  4. On the next screen, click on the blue words at the bottom, “Sync Device.”  Your device will sync in the background.
  5. Click the Home button to go back to the Home screen.

Step 3: Click on the Canvas app & fix settings to display images

Once iPads are updated to iOS 14.2, and students have re-logged into the Hub app, follow these directions to have the student Canvas app show images. This is a known problem and Canvas is working on a more permanent solution. This will temporarily resolve the issue of not being able to see the images.If you have any technical issues with installing the update, please fill out the Tech Help Form found on your school website.

Algunas actualizaciones para compartir. El Departamento de Servicios de Información de APS ha abierto actualizaciones del software para los iPads de los estudiantes que permitirán a los estudiantes actualizar a iOS 14.2. .Algunos estudiantes pueden necesitar hacer varias actualizaciones para que el iPad sea 14.2. Lea la información a continuación y siga las instrucciones paso a paso. También puede ver este video que lo guía a través de los pasos.Lo que debe hacer para prepararse para la actualización de iOS:

  1. Presione en la aplicación Hub
  2. Tenga a la mano la identificación de estudiante de APS de su hijo (nombre de usuario). Escriba la contraseña de APS y presione “SIGUIENTE”.
  3. Verá el número de identificación del estudiante en la parte superior. Debajo, seleccione “Este dispositivo”.
  4. En la siguiente pantalla, presione en las palabras azules en la parte inferior, “Dispositivo de sincronización”. Su dispositivo se sincronizará en segundo plano.
  5. Presione en el botón Inicio para volver a la pantalla de inicio.

Paso 3: Presione en la aplicación Canvas y corrija la configuración para mostrar imágenes

Una vez que los iPads se hayan actualizado a iOS 14.2 y los estudiantes hayan vuelto a iniciar sesión en la aplicación Hub, siga estas instrucciones para que la aplicación Canvas del estudiante muestre imágenes. Este es un problema conocido y Canvas está trabajando en una solución más permanente. Esto resolverá temporalmente el problema de no poder ver las imágenes.
