  • Candidates should bring their photo ID and Social Security Card to the Job Fair.

  • Staff will be available at each Job Fair to assist candidates with completing their online application if needed.

Positions

Trainee/Aide

Trainee and Aide Positions

  • Trainee and Aide positions for the 2024-2025 school year are scheduled to begin on Monday, August 19, 2024, and end on Wednesday, June 18, 2025.
  • These are hourly-at-will positions currently starting at $17.16/hour, varying from 13.25 hours – 25.75 hours per week.
  • Our programs operate under 2 different school bell schedules, thus creating the following available shift times –
Bell Schedule Before School Program Shifts After School Program Shifts
Early 6:50AM – 7:50AM 2PM – 5:30PM/6PM*
Late 6:50AM – 8:50AM 3PM – 5:30PM/6PM*
*Trainees and Subs leave at 5:30PM; Aides leave at 6PM.
  • We currently have after-school positions available at various locations throughout Arlington County.
  • Before school positions are offered to those working an afternoon position and interested in additional hours.  Our enrollment is lower for morning programs, thus reducing the number of available staff positions. We place interested staff on a list and offer the hours as positions become available.
  • All new hires are required to participate in a series of orientations before working on-site with students.  Additional information regarding the orientation process and dates will be announced later.

Substitutes

Extended Day Trainee/Aide on Sub Status

  • Extended Day Trainees and Aides who are not available to work 5 days per week may be placed in Substitute status.
    • You may refer to the shift times below to determine your availability.

Supervisory Positions

Supervisor, Assistant Supervisor, and Team Leader Positions

  • Supervisory positions for the 2024-2025 school year are scheduled to begin on Monday, August 12, 2024, and end on Wednesday, June 18, 2025.
  • Supervisor, Assistant Supervisor, and Team Leader positions are full-time, 10-month (191 days per year), salary positions with the following benefits:
    • Sick Leave
    • Personal Leave
    • Retirement
    • Health and/or Dental Insurance (optional)
  • Supervisor and Assistant Supervisor positions work 7.5 hours per day, on a schedule of both straight and split shifts with start and end times between 6:45AM and 6:15PM.
    • Salaries for the 2024-2025 year start at $39,508 for the Supervisor position and $34,122 for the Assistant Supervisor position.
  • Team Leaders work 6 hours per day, on a schedule of both straight and split shifts with start and end times between 6:45AM and 6:15PM.
    • The Team Leader salary for the 2024-2025 year starts at $22,518.

Hourly Summer Positions

Hourly Summer positions (supervisory and non-supervisory) are available through a separate in-house application process offered only to current Extended Day employees.

Extended Day Employee Referral Bonus Program

10-month Extended Day employees are eligible to receive a bonus of up to $150 for referring a potential candidate to work with Extended Day.

  • $75 will be paid to the referring employee after the new employee has completed working their first full pay period.
  • $75 will be paid to the referring employee after the new employee has completed working six full pay cycles.

The following must be met to be eligible for the bonus payment:

  • The referring Extended Day employee must send an email to ExtendedDay.Staff@apsva.us to submit a referral.  The email should include the first and last name of the candidate they are referring.
  • During the interview, the candidate will be asked to confirm the first and last name of the Extended Day employee who has referred them.
  • A candidate may only be referred by one Extended Day employee for the purpose of receiving the bonus payment
  • The candidate must complete the APS Onboarding process and be given “Cleared to Start” permission from HR staff.
  • The new employee must commit to a work schedule of 5 days a week.
  • The new employee must maintain satisfactory performance during the six full pay cycle time frame.
  • The referring candidate must be active at the time a bonus payment is made in order to receive the payout.
  • The referring Extended Day employee for the first 50 referred candidates to be hired are eligible for the bonus payment.
