Facilities Planning

The Facilities Planning department is responsible for enhancing the school system’s use of facilities. Using geographic information system (GIS) technology, Facilities Planning performs extensive boundary studies, utilization studies, and other applicable analysis to assure maximum utilization of capital funds. Facilities Planning also facilitates the “MoreSeats for More Students” community engagement process that addresses issues related to school crowding in an open and transparent manner.

Departmental responsibilities include:

  • Preparing short and long term student population projections (Document)
  • Enrollment projection methodology (Document)
  • Prepare capacity utilization studies (Document)
  • Identifying options for redistribution of students or programs
  • Preparing Arlington Facilities and Student Accommodation Plan (AFSAP) Report (Document)
  • Assisting in the planning of future major infrastructure need and in the Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) (Document)
  • Maintaining the APS geographic information system (GIS) database
  • Collaborating with stakeholders in the More Seat for More Students community engagement process
  • Maintaining attendance boundary maps (Elementary 2015Elementary 2016MiddleHighPlanning Unit)
  • Preparing the Annual APS Enrollment Projections Report (Document)
