Academic Planning & Graduation Requirements for Military Families

Academic Planning

Academic planning is essential to student success.  APS partners with students and families to ensure that a course of study is developed that meets the individual academic and social needs and interests of the students we serve.

Elementary Students

Families of students in grades K through 5 are encouraged to carefully review the Program of Studies. This program outlines major skills and content which children are expected to learn at each of the elementary grade levels. The curricula include all the Virginia Standards of Learning. Families who desire to review the full range of grade level objectives or program description are encouraged to review local and state curriculum guides and text materials available in each school.

Secondary Students

Families of students in grades 6 through 12 are encouraged to carefully review the appropriate Program of Studies to identify the course of study that best meets the needs of their child.  The middle and high school programs of studies are renewed annually to ensure that APS offers courses that meet Virginia graduation requirements as well as the interests of students and teachers.  These documents provide families with a listing of each course offered along with a detailed description of the course objectives.  Families will also find information regarding graduation requirements, credits earned, and prerequisites in the Programs of Study.
