Arlington Public Schools is concluding the 2025-26 school year with strong results across academics, student well-being, operations and family engagement.
During the June 18 School Board meeting, Superintendent Dr. Francisco Durán shared highlights from the APS Year-End Report and reflected on the accomplishments made possible by students, staff, families and community partners.
“The accomplishments highlighted in this report reflect the dedication of our students, employees, families and community partners,” said Dr. Durán. “Together, we continue to create learning environments where students can thrive and prepare for successful futures.”
Highlights from the 2025-26 school year include:
- More than 1,700 graduates in the Class of 2026
- More than $30 million in scholarships awarded
- 89% of graduates planning to continue their education after high school
- Continued declines in chronic absenteeism
- 83% of K-2 students making expected progress in foundational literacy skills
- 92% employee retention rate
- 93% on-time bus arrival rate
- Family workshop offerings tripled since 2023-24
APS also advanced innovative work in artificial intelligence by launching a Responsible AI Framework, convening a community AI town hall and creating the APS AI Learning Hub.
Looking ahead, APS will continue focusing on literacy, mathematics, student well-being, inclusive learning opportunities, family partnerships and safe, modern learning environments. Key priorities for the 2026-27 school year include strengthening literacy instruction through the Science of Reading framework, implementing newly adopted mathematics resources, expanding inclusive co-teaching models and advancing major facility improvements.
The coming school year will also bring exciting milestones, including the opening of the Grace Hopper Center and the new Arlington Community High School facility.
