Arlington Transportation Partners named its 2015-16 Champions this week. Champions schools and sites are recognized and rewarded for their dedication to sustainable transportation. Participating in Champions results in reduced traffic around their schools and sites, improved staff and student health and wellness, and increased sustainability goals. Champion schools and sites promote transportation options, encourage biking, walking, carpooling and transit use, create carpools as well as bicycle and walk groups, celebrate staff ‘Super Commuters,’ adopt ART bus stops, and conduct travel tallies of students and staff. Every Champion is recognized; however, the higher the level, the more benefits the participants receive.
The 2015-16 Champions are:
Bronze – Abingdon; Employee Assistance Program; Facilities and Operations; Arlington Mill; Ashlawn; Drew; H-B Woodlawn; Nottingham; Syphax; Williamsburg; and Yorktown
Silver – Glebe and Swanson
Gold – Discovery and Oakridge
Carlin Springs was named a 2016 High Flying School during the 27th annual National Youth-At-Risk Conference in early March. The schools were chosen based on their achievements in attaining academic success, community collaboration, citizenship development and democratic education.
