Arlington Public Schools (APS) is committed to sustainability and ensuring that we adopt practices that protect the environment. In an effort to reduce waste, promote sustainability, and save valuable time and money, APS replaced backpack mail with implementation of electronic delivery of flyers one year ago.
Since then, flyers have been sent electronically through Peachjar to families who receive them as images right on their smartphone or computer screen. With one click, families can register children for school events and enrichment programs.
With APS eliminating the printing cost and staff time associated with paper flyers, the move to Peachjar represents a savings of more than $2.1 million in paper costs and staff time for the community. Additionally, by reducing paper waste, the district is saving 475 (trees per year! As we celebrate Earth Day, we’re proud of efforts like this that are helping to support sustainable practices.
