APS News Release

APS to Provide Families a Week of Meals for Spring Break this Friday

Food and Nutrition Services Will Add Two Additional Sites After Spring Break
USDA Waiver Guidelines

On Fri, April 3, APS will provide a week’s worth of meals to families who come to one of the five grab-and-go meal distribution sites to ensure students have food during spring break. There will be no APS meal service provided April 6-10 during the APS scheduled spring break. Meal services will resume on Mon, April 13, with an expanded list of sites to include Key and Hoffman-Boston elementary schools.

New USDA Waiver for Meal Pickup
Additionally, the USDA has provided a waiver to the rule that children must be present to receive meals. Families who wish to pick up meals without their children must email the name and ID numbers for all their children as well as the location they will pick up their meal from to Food.services@apsva.us. We have established this procedure based on guidance from the USDA to ensure that all families have flexibility and access to meals. Emailing in advance allows us to keep a record and ensure families can receive the food they need without creating delays or longer lines at food sites.

These meals will be free to any child aged 2 to 18. APS will continue to monitor the situation daily and adjust as needed. Meals will be provided to all children without charge and are the same for all children regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability, and there will be no discrimination during the meal service.
