Arlington Community High School Opens its Official New Permanent Home at Amazon’s HQ2

Arlington Public Schools (APS) celebrated a new chapter for Arlington Community High School (ACHS) on Friday, Aug. 28, with the official opening of the school’s new permanent home at Amazon’s HQ2 in National Landing.

The new location provides ACHS students and staff with more than 30,000 square feet of dedicated educational space across two floors at Metropolitan Park, 1450 S. Eads St. The school has its own dedicated entrance and includes classrooms, common areas and spaces designed to support the unique needs of the ACHS community.

“This partnership is a powerful example of what is possible when our schools and community come together around students,” said Dr. Francisco Durán, Superintendent of Arlington Public Schools. “Amazon’s investment in Arlington Community High School goes far beyond the physical space. It creates new opportunities for connection, learning and engagement, while placing our students in the heart of a vibrant community. We are excited about what this partnership can mean for ACHS students today and for years to come.”

The opening marks an important milestone for ACHS, which has operated for decades without a permanent home. The nontraditional high school serves students ages 16 and older, many of whom balance their education with full- or part-time employment. ACHS offers both day and evening classes, providing students with flexible opportunities to continue their education and earn their high school diplomas.

“Our students bring determination, resilience and incredible potential with them every day,” said Dr. Jeannette Allen, Principal of Arlington Community High School. “This new chapter gives us even more ways to build on those strengths, create meaningful learning experiences and help students see all that is possible for their futures. I am excited for them to make this space their own and to see where the opportunities ahead will take them.”

The new home reflects years of collaboration among Arlington County, APS and Amazon. Arlington County played a central role in making the project possible, working with APS to identify a permanent location for ACHS and establish the school as a community benefit connected to Amazon’s HQ2 development.

The location also places ACHS students and staff within the broader Metropolitan Park community. Students will have access to Met Park’s 2.5-acre public park and community garden, along with nearby businesses, community spaces and other opportunities in the heart of National Landing.

APS, Arlington County and Amazon officially celebrated the opening Friday with a grand opening ceremony and tours of the new school. School and community leaders, students, staff and partners gathered to mark the milestone ahead of the first day of the 2026–27 school year.

The move gives ACHS more than a new address. It provides the school community with a permanent place to build traditions, strengthen connections and create new opportunities for students as they work toward graduation and their next steps.
