Campbell’s Hugelkultur Gardens Featured on Green Scene In this week’s episode, Green Scene highlights Campbell’s garden workdays. About 30 families assembled at Campbell to create new planting beds using the hugelkultur method. Students and parents laid fallen twigs, tree stumps and logs in the bottom of the planting bed. Then soil, manure, and other organic materials are layered on top.
The hugelkultur method was chosen because it provides nutrients to the soil over many years. It requires less potting soil, and also teaches students about decomposition. Garden work days are an excellent opportunity for families to contribute to the garden program at Campbell, and to work together to support the community.
