Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month

Today begins Hispanic Heritage Month, and we are starting this beautiful September day by celebrating the cultures, histories, traditions and contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities across Arlington Public Schools and our broader community.

Observed from Sept. 15 through Oct. 15, Hispanic Heritage Month is an opportunity to recognize the people, stories and experiences that have shaped our community, our nation and our world. It is also a time to celebrate the students, families and staff who bring their cultures, languages, traditions and perspectives to APS every day.

Throughout the month, our schools will celebrate in many ways, bringing Hispanic and Latino history and culture into classrooms, highlighting influential leaders and changemakers and creating opportunities for students and families to share their own stories and traditions.

These celebrations are about more than marking a month on the calendar. They give us opportunities to learn from one another, deepen our understanding and strengthen the connections that make our schools welcoming places where students and families feel seen, valued and connected.

We look forward to sharing some of those celebrations with you throughout Hispanic Heritage Month and highlighting the voices and experiences of our APS community.

Today is just the beginning. We invite our entire community to join us over the next month in learning, celebrating and recognizing the many ways Hispanic and Latino communities continue to enrich APS, Arlington County and our world.

¡Feliz Mes de la Herencia Hispana!
