COVID-19: A Message from the Interim Superintendent

Dear APS Families,

I hope you continue to stay safe and healthy. I am so proud of our amazing teachers and staff working to support students and families, and of our students who are stepping up to the challenge to continue learning and stay engaged.

We are currently working on plans for the end of the school year, as well as options for summer school which depend on how the pandemic and health, safety and social distancing requirements evolve. More information and guidance will come soon on these. I have also been working closely with high school principals on ways to celebrate our graduating seniors. We are planning virtual ceremonies while also planning and hoping for in-person celebration events in August or when possible. I reached out to the Class of 2020 directly today. My full letter to seniors is available here.

As a reminder, 3rd quarter report cards are available for secondary students through ParentVUE, and elementary report cards will be available tomorrow. Please reach out to your teacher or principal with questions or issues related to report cards.

If your child is struggling with motivation, or needs social-emotional support, please contact your student’s teacher and or school counselor. You can find your school counselor through the school counseling webpages.

Be sure to follow APS on Twitter (@APSVirginia) to see some of our amazing staff, as we highlight the Principal, Teacher and Employee of the Year honorees from all our schools over the next several weeks. You can use #APSCelebrationofExcellence to share stories of teachers, principals and support staff who make a difference to your family.

Thank you for all you continue to do for our students, and please stay well.

Interim Superintendent
