New Hoffman-Boston Principal Named

The Arlington School Board named Helena Payne Chauvenet as the new Principal of Hoffman-Boston Elementary School, effective July 1. Payne Chauvenet is currently the Principal of Maury Elementary School in DC Public Schools (DCPS).

Payne Chauvenet holds a bachelor’s degree in American Studies from the University of Notre Dame, a master’s degree in teaching and curriculum from Harvard Graduate School of Education as well as an Ed.S. in administration and supervision from the University of Virginia.

Payne Chauvenet joins Arlington Public Schools after 12 years of experience in school leadership, including five years as an elementary principal in DCPS. As a principal, she has led her school community through the pandemic, rising student enrollment and school modernization. Her school was a recipient of the National Blue Ribbon School in 2020 by the U.S. Department of Education.

Payne Chauvenet also served as an assistant principal for several years in both DC Public Schools and Alexandria City Public Schools. She worked for nine years in Alexandria as a middle school teacher and assistant principal.
