Nov. 30 Engage Updates: Public Hearing on Middle School Boundaries; School Naming Criteria; Acceptable Use Policy (Technology 1:1 Devices); CIP and Civic Federation Public Hearing

Public Hearing Tonight on Middle School Boundary Changes
A Public Hearing on Middle School Boundaries is scheduled as part of the School Board meeting tonight, Thurs, Nov. 30. An updated boundary option is posted online (click here to view). School Board meetings are held at 6:30 p.m. at the Education Center (1426 N. Quincy St.), with the citizen comment period typically starting at 7 p.m. Online registration to speak at the School Board meeting is closed, but anyone is welcome to sign up in person before the meeting begins.

Online Survey and Focus Groups for Community Input on School Naming Criteria
APS requests community assistance with shaping and expanding the naming criteria in the APS Naming Policy for current and future school facilities! This is the first step in the process to revise the existing policy so that it reflects the views of the Arlington community. Please ensure your voice is heard!

Online Survey is Open until Fri, Dec. 8: To provide input to help shape the revised policy, please complete the brief online form available at https://survey.k12insight.com/r/5AYRQh.

Community Focus Group Discussions on Sat, Dec. 2: In addition to completing the survey, community members can sign up to participate in one of three group discussions held at the APS Syphax Education Center (2110 Washington Blvd). These will be facilitated on Sat, Dec. 2, by the George Mason University School of Conflict Analysis and Resolution (SCAR) at 10 a.m.; 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Space is limited, so please register at www.eventbrite.com/e/aps-school-naming-criteria-community-meetings-tickets-39955940293. Upcoming Deadline for Initial Community Input on Acceptable Use Policy (Technology 1:1 Devices)
Friday, Dec. 1, is the deadline for initial community input on APS guidelines for how digital devices such as iPads and laptops—issued to students in grades 2-12—are used to support best instructional practices. The online form, along with current APS policies and sample policies from other school districts, are available at www.apsva.us/engage/acceptable-use/. A community discussion on this initiative will be held on Mon, Dec. 11, 7-9 p.m. and Washington-Lee High School. School Board action on this initiative is scheduled for Jan. 18, 2018.

School Board is Addressing the Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) Framework
The School Board discussed the FY 2019-28 CIP Framework at a work session on Nov. 28 and will consider this as an information item at the Nov. 30 School Board meeting. Watch Live: County Government/APS Conversation
On Tue, Dec. 5 at 7 p.m., tune in and watch a conversation with Arlington Public Schools Superintendent Patrick Murphy and County Manager Mark Schwartz. The event is hosted by the Arlington County Civic Federation will include a range of topics, including the fiscal year (FY) 2019 budget.
