Good evening, and Happy October! October is always one of the busiest months of the year for the disability community as we acknowledge Attention Deficit Disorder (ADHD) Awareness Month, Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) Awareness Month, Disability History and Awareness Month, Dyslexia Awareness Month, and National Disability Employment Awareness Month.

During the month, we will share a variety of resources and events happening online and in our community. Please see our Events and Resources section each week for additional information and resource links. Of special note is our upcoming AAC Super Supper Club! Details coming soon.


Annual Online Verification Process (AOVP)
AOVP is the opportunity for families to review and update student, parent and emergency contact information. It also contains important policies and information. All families must complete this process by Oct. 31, 2022 via their ParentVUE account. Support is available in a variety of ways:

  • Dyslexia: A Deeper Understanding
    A six-module series presenting information around a deeper understanding of dyslexia is now available through the Training and Technical Assistance Center (TTAC) at William & Mary’s website. The series was created by a team of TTAC specialists from across the commonwealth, parents of children with dyslexia, and experts in the field of dyslexia. This online learning experience provides information around topics related to dyslexia:

    • Virginia Legislation Related to Dyslexia and Reading
    • Definition of Dyslexia within the Administrative Code of Virginia and the International Dyslexia Association
    • Prevalence and Characteristics of Dyslexia
    • Assessment and Progress Monitoring
    • Instruction Examining the Five Components of Reading         
    • Social Emotional Impact of Dyslexia
    • Accommodations and Assistive Technology
