School Board Appoints Arlington Community High School and Director of Secondary Education

The School Board made two appointments at tonight’s meeting.

The School Board named Dr. Lori Wiggins the new Principal of Arlington Community High School. Wiggins is currently the Principal of Gunston Middle School.

Dr. Wiggins has been with APS since 2012, serving as the principal of Gunston Middle School for the last 11 years.  She earned her bachelor’s from Messiah College, her master’s from California State University, Northridge, and her doctorate from West Virginia University. Prior to her work in APS, Dr. Wiggins served as the executive director at the West Virginia Department of Education in the Office of Professional Preparation. She also worked as middle school principal and a high school assistant principal for Ohio County Schools, in Wheeling, West Virginia. She began her professional career as a Spanish teacher in East New York, Brooklyn.

The School Board also appointed Dr. Chris Willmore as Director of Secondary Education. Dr. Willmore began his career at APS in 1995. He taught at Escuela Key from 1995-97 and returned to APS in 1999 as a teacher in the Immersion Program at Gunston Middle School. In 2002, Dr. Willmore served as assistant principal at Wakefield High School and in 2010, he was named principal of Wakefield. Over his 13 years as principal at Wakefield, he has had the honor of working with amazing students and an incredible staff that cares deeply for the Wakefield community.

Both appointments are effective July 1, 2023.
