Students to Take Home Devices this Summer

As summer break approaches, we want to let families of students in grades PreK through 11 know that students will be taking their device home over the summer. We believe that empowering students with access to technology beyond the classroom walls can provide them with continued learning opportunities, support their personal growth, and foster a seamless transition into the upcoming academic year.

Here are a few key points to keep in mind:

  1. Device Responsibility & Safety: We kindly request that both you and your child acknowledge the responsibility associated with taking the device home. We encourage you to have open discussions with your child about responsible internet usage, online safety, and appropriate behavior while using the device. Remind them to follow Arlington Public Schools’ acceptable use policy and to report any concerns or incidents promptly. You can find helpful Digital Safety videos at Common Sense Media.
  1. Device Maintenance: The devices are APS property, and any damage or malfunction caused by negligence or improper handling will be the responsibility of the student and their family. In case of any technical issues, please contact our technical support team at 703-228-2570 for assistance.
  1. Instructional Resources: Schools will send home information on instructional resources that students will have access to along with instructions on how to access instructional resources on both school and home devices.

We believe that providing students with access to their devices during the summer will encourage ongoing learning, enhance their digital skills, and facilitate a smooth transition back to school in the fall. We appreciate your continued support in reinforcing the importance of responsible device usage.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to Dr. Amy Jackson, via email at amy.jackson@apsva.us or phone at 703-228-2423. We look forward to a successful conclusion of the academic year and wish you and your family a safe and enjoyable summer break.
