Summer Learning Week of August 3: Real-World Graphs and more (Grades 9-12)

These activities help students continue learning, exploring and creating throughout the summer.

Weekly Learning Menu

Daily Reading

Students should read for at least 30 minutes each day.

The Arlington Central Library is open Monday–Thursday from 10 a.m.–8 p.m. and Friday–Sunday from 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Students can also access digital books through APS Library Resources in Canvas.

Ask your student to help with an everyday technology task, such as updating settings, changing an account preference or installing a software update. Have your student read the instructions aloud, explain each step and define any unfamiliar words before completing the task.

Math and Problem Solving

• Budget Breakdown: Create a sample monthly budget using a hypothetical paycheck and a list of expenses. Calculate how much money remains and determine the savings rate.
• Real-World Graph Talk: Choose an everyday situation, such as water use during a shower or money saved over time. Describe what the graph would look like and explain why.

Social Studies and Community

Explore a museum through Google Arts & Culture. *Families should preview content to ensure it is appropriate for their student.

World Languages

Listen to a song or explore a piece of artwork in the language you are learning. Describe what you hear or see. Students studying Latin can examine Roman art or poetry, then compare it with modern art, music or public murals.

Creative Expression and Arts

Create a self-portrait or a portrait of a family member using a unique artistic style, such as cubism or surrealism.
