Weekly Learning Menu
Daily Reading
Join the Arlington Public Library Summer Reading Challenge and encourage your student to read for at least 30 minutes each day. Students can also access digital books through APS Library Resources in Canvas.
Math & Problem Solving
Choose one activity:
- Build a Budget: Plan a snack for four people using a $25 budget. Compare prices and decide how to make the most of your money.
- Ratio Recipes: Scale a favorite family recipe to serve more or fewer people by adjusting the ingredients.
Science & Nature
Observe what happens as ice melts. Fill a clear cup with ice cubes, watch the changes throughout the day, and discuss how heat changes water from a solid to a liquid and eventually to water vapor.
Civic Engagement
Explore your community by visiting a local museum or historical site and discussing what you learned about Arlington’s history.
Social Studies
Take a virtual tour through Google Arts & Culture. *Please preview museum content to ensure it is appropriate for your student.
World Languages
Practice your target language while exploring your community. Name or sign places such as a store, museum, or park. Students studying Latin can identify Latin roots or classical architectural features they notice along the way.
Creative Arts & Expression
Practice one- or two-point perspective by drawing a city street, hallway, or neighborhood scene.
- You can also explore artwork through the National Gallery of Art Virtual Tours.
