Welcome Back to School!

Welcome back! Although the majority of our students returned last week, many of you have been preparing for the first day of school since the end of school last year, throughout the summer, and particularly during the month of August. From our Administrative Conference on Aug. 10, to our New Hire Orientation, the Festival of the Minds, and our Day of Learning, you have all been working hard to prepare for students’ return and help them get off to a great start. We appreciate your dedication and hard work to ensure a smooth transition.

In addition to our staff professional development, many other new initiatives have launched. We have a new learning management system, called Canvas, that our Department of Instruction and Department of Information Services have been working together to roll out to our teachers. Our Food Services team is offering new menu options at our comprehensive high schools to provide even more healthy nutritional choices for our students. Administrators in all of our departments are preparing for a busy year with 13 community engagement process scheduled to decide on new schools, boundary adjustments, program moves, and more that will affect our students and their families in the next three to five years. Please stay informed about about these processes throughout the year by regularly visiting our Engage web page for details.

Finally, take a look at this year’s First Day of School video, which highlights many of the important transitions our students will make as they head back to school. Follow our Superintendent, Dr. Murphy as he visits several schools to see firsthand both the excitement (and a few tears) of students, staff and families on the first day.

UPDATE :: For those who are wondering, the AETV team followed up with Aubrey after her first day, and she’s had tons of fun with the Play-Doh, loves playing in the make-believe kitchen, and already has made friends (all girls, no boys). And her mom said she was all smiles after school yesterday! Have a great year, Aubrey!
