What is APS doing to keep class sizes smaller when students return?

posted Aug. 13

The health and safety of our students and staff continues to be our priority as we prepare to open school. This includes carefully reviewing class sizes and enrollment at each school, to ensure we are able to provide as much distancing as possible in our classrooms.

Staff within the departments of human resources, schools, finance, and planning are working collaboratively daily to monitor student enrollment at all of our schools and programs. While our maximum class size for elementary has been set, staff are reviewing each class and school to address and adjust class sizes as needed. Those adjustments, in some cases, may mean the movement of teachers within a school as well as to other schools within the school division.

Our goal is to keep our class sizes below the suggested maximum class sizes for the upcoming school year, in collaboration with school principals over the next two weeks.
